Cainiao Bolsters Spanish Express Network, Cross-border E-commerce Volumes Surge

To cope with the surging demand in cross-border e-commerce shipments, the construction of local networks abroad is being accelerated.

The reporter learnt from Cainiao that the Cainiao Global Express Delivery is set to expand its local delivery network in Spain. As of now, Cainiao's self-operated delivery network spans across 47 major regions in Spain, including three outlying island regions. Key cities like Madrid and Barcelona enjoy the convenience of "next-day delivery," while shoppers in other areas receive their parcels in two days. Moreover, Cainiao has introduced "weekend delivery" services in core urban areas such as Madrid, Barcelona and Valencia to cater to the increasing logistics demands of local consumers.

With the approaching year-end shopping festivals such as "Double 11", "Black Friday" and Christmas, Cainiao Global Express Deliver is rapidly expanding its network in Spain by adding self-operated distribution centers in five new regions: Biscay, Asturias, Mallorca and La Coruña. Moreover, trucks departing from Cainiao's Madrid distribution center now have daily schedules, enabling faster last-mile delivery in coordination with the distribution stations in 47 cities.

According to reports, Cainiao's local delivery network in Spain has significantly enhanced its fulfillment capabilities since the introduction of self-operated services in 2021. In September of 2023, in collaboration with AliExpress, Cainiao launched the "Global 5-Day Delivery" international express service, with Spain being one of the first markets to implement it. During this year's "Double 11" and "Black Friday" promotions, the daily parcel volume processed at Cainiao's Madrid distribution stations surged by an impressive 800% compared to the previous year.

The rapid development of cross-border e-commerce has made the last-mile delivery crucial for enhancing customer experience and for cross-border logistics. In Spain, Cainiao relies on its own express network to offer various logistics solutions, such as cross-border small packages, local warehouse shipments,destination-based delivery and same-city distribution, benefiting both local merchants and Chinese cross-border businesses.Cainiao is further expanding its end-to-end delivery network in France and Brazil and is actively building the largest local self-pickup cabinet network in Poland.

Cainiao's global smart logistics network has a presence in more than 200 countries and regions. In the 2023 fiscal year, Cainiao handled 1.5 billion international parcels, serving 133 million cross-border consumers, as well as over 100,000 businesses and brands.
