An 86% increase in demand has led the company to expand its presence in Andalucía and Castilla-La Mancha

The 3 new stations are self-operated and will optimize the operational efficiency of last-mile deliveries

[Madrid, April 16th, 2024] – Cainiao Group (“Cainiao”), a global leader in e-commerce logistics, continues to strengthen its presence in Spain with the inauguration of three new self-operated last-mile delivery stations in Córdoba, Granada and Toledo. This newest initiative aims to consolidate the operations of the company’s Spanish express delivery network and enhance service levels. The three new stations have already begun their operations.

Over the past year, Cainiao´s volume of parcels in Spain has achieved a strong triple-digit growth, and in the past nine months, the volume in Córdoba, Granada and Toledo has increased significantly by an average of 86%. In response, Cainiao is further optimizing its logistics network by establishing three new self-operated delivery stations. The company already has 16 stations up and running across the nation.

Located in the industrial area of these cities and with a total surface area surpassing 1,600sqm, the 3 new self-operated delivery stations improve the proximity to the urban area and further optimize shipments’ inbound and outbound process. The increased operational potential of these new facilities is expected to enhance the efficiency of last-mile delivery.

“The 3 new hubs enable us to elevate the capabilities of our Spanish express delivery network by addressing the growing need for parcels’ last-mile delivery in key Spanish regions, allowing us to provide high quality logistics service that better serves the merchants and consumers of E-commerce platforms,” comments by Wenming Cai, general manager of Cainiao Spain.

Strengthening its Spanish local delivery network

Officially launched in Spain in 2021, Cainiao has consistently expanded its presence in the Spanish market by developing its own express network throughout the country, including the Canary and Balearic Islands. In December 2023, the company announced the launch of 5 delivery stations in Getafe, Bilbao, Gijón, Mallorca and A Coruña.

Today, the network covers more than 40 Spanish regions and boasts 19 self-operated stations, with its national distribution center located in San Fernando de Henares (Madrid). The distribution center offers daily connection to regional delivery stations.

In 2023, Cainiao partnered with AliExpress to unveil a worldwide five-day delivery initiative, debuting first in Spain. In March 2024, the company further upgraded its offer, launching the five-day delivery service in more countries including Germany, France, Portugal, Saudi Arabia, the U.S, and Mexico, marking a milestone in its mission to develop a more efficient and better connected global logistics network. In Spain, Cainiao’s efficient and agile local express network provides one-day delivery in 23 main Spanish cities and two-day delivery in the rest of the cities. Additionally, the network offers weekend delivery in major urban areas to meet the growing demand for e-commerce logistics from local consumers.
